About Angela

Howdy, stranger!

Did you just stumble across my blog in search of a genetic disorder?  Or something related to Special Needs?  Please stick around and visit for a while.  I would love to get to know you.  Feel free to add comments or links about anything that touches your life.  You can chat with me on Twitter @specialneedmom2

It can be lonely in the land of Special Needs, it’s nice to connect with each other.

I’ve been living in the world of Special Needs for over 15 years. It’s busy, as a Special Education teacher, wife to Hubby with ADHD and mother to two children with special needs. I think if I looked hard enough at myself I could make a case of living in the world of Special Needs my entire life.

My wonderful Hubby has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); he is funny, charming, thoughtful, forgetful, inattentive, and impulsive, all at the same time.  My 5 year old, Mr. Sensitive, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) & Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).  My 3 year old, Little Miss Adorable, has Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).   Baby Dunk is now one year old and marching (or speed crawling) to his own drummer.

We’ve hit the genetic lottery big time.  As a family we swim in acronym alphabet soup and a sea of appointments.

Our lives are spent running from occupational therapy to physiotherapy to pharmacies, pediatricians and family doctors. Don’t forget teachers, principals, daycares and the many, many telephone calls. Add a few hospital assessments (ECG, cardio, bone density, endocrine, etc…) for variety and you have a crazy hectic household.

Somedays it feels like we all have ADHD (but only the hubby does;) We are just trying to ‘dance in the rain.’
